Changing BT box

Is there a bt box available that would enable to connect via the internet as the present one is very old with no recording facility. Due to recent upgrade to full fibre the hub is now far away from the BT box. The TV package is only basic. Thanks in advance.

Re: Changing BT box

As far as I’m aware BTTV doesn’t offer a wifi enabled STB as they can’t guarantee the QoS, Quality of Service.

It’ll need to be connected using an Ethernet Cable, I assume the 10m provided with the STB isn’t long enough.

You really only have two choice, well technically three.

1. Use Power Line Adapters.

2. Make up/buy a longer Ethernet Cable.

3. Have your ONT/Hub moved to where your TV is.

@dek1573

The latest BT TV Box Pro works over WiFi, including delivering a selection of Freeview channels over the internet.

You will need to recontract and make sure you get a Smart Hub 2.

Re: Changing BT box

Appreciate the reply but was wondering if you can use the BT mini box as the main BT box.
Don't need recordings etc just wi fi connection. Don't mind re contracting.

Re: Changing BT box

You can do, as a BT TV Mini doesn’t rely on the the BT TV Pro box like Sky Q does, your problem is that you need to recontract first and they will only send you a BT TV Pro box.

You could then obtain a BT TV Mini box from a third party and use it instead of the pro box, but it is a bit of a faff and extra expense.

Easier just to use the pro box you are sent and don’t use recording if you don’t want to.

To “legally” obtain a BT TV Mini box you need to recontract, get the BT TV Pro box and then add multiroom at £10 per month. That’s a bigger and even more expensive faff than just using the box you are sent.

Re: Changing BT box

Really appreciate all the replies, recontract is no problem so that's what will happen.

Thanks again.

Re: Changing BT box

Bear in mind that recontracting BT TV will also recontract you're broadband for another 24 months.

Can you not just use apps on a smart TV/Roku/Firestick if you don't need recording?
