Re: Digital Voice - How to disable voicemail function

How about telling people they're getting voicemail with DV?  Mine didn't even ring before it kicked in so I didn' know I had a voicemail. Went to use the phone and just got the sort of engaged signal and couldn't call out - it was an emergency!!!

Had to go to my neighbour's house to make the emergency call wasting valuable minutes.

BT you nearly cost someone's life, I am so angry!!!!!!!!!

But if you don't hear the phone then you don't know yyou have a message so you waste time getting rid of the mesage before you can make a call. In my case I had an emergency call to make so this was life-threatening!

Would be nice if BT told us we were getting voicemail with the switchover though. Especially if you don't know you have it and have never had it before!

Interrupted dial tone just indicates a message waiting, it doesn't prevent you making an outgoing call.

I can confirm that mine has never prevented me from making a call.

A message left on 1571 doesn’t stop an outgoing call ,that’s nonsense, however if you were advised that DV was ‘live’ and you tried to use the phone still connected to the master socket, rather than moving the phone into socket to the socket on the router , then obviously you won’t be able to make a call on the old network if it’s been ‘turned off’ in favour of DV ….TBH , the instructions are pretty clear , and the majority have no problem at all following them .

If this is an issue as you claim , is it still the same now ?  , with you being unable to make an outgoing call if a message is left , or are you claiming it was a one off , that you listened to that original message (once you knew modulated dialtone is just dialtone with an indicator of a message , which you then listened to   )

Try leaving yourself another message and see if this ‘fault’ returns, then report the problem, however no one on here has seen such a fault report previously.

….the other possibility is your phone is set to loop dial not DTMF ( touch tone ) , DV won’t respond to loop disconnect pulses only DTMF , but if that was the case you couldn’t have listened to your message to get ‘normal’ dialtone back .

Same issue here.  Voice mail is full of messages as mum didn't manage to get to the phone, and she hasn't grasped how to listen to them.. tried all the suggestions 15710 just asked you to voicemail. No options to disable on mybt, and no option to disable in 1571.  Looks like the only way to disable digital voilmail on digital voice is to move to a different provider?
