Re: Incoming calls cut off after 1/2 hour

Go to solution

Thanks again Hood..

Copper  wire is underground.

The problem started as soon Digital Voice was installed.

Prior to this calls from Australia over a 20 year period were no problem.

The problem has been reported on various websites for over three years, and still no resolution from various companies.

Yesterday, I had a call from my sister in law and she has had the problem with UK calls cutting out since she had BT digi voice installed.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my query.

Regards,

Len.

Let's get one thing straight, if it is just incoming calls from Australia that have the problem, it has absolutely nothing to do with your physical connection.

The problem lies with either Telstra or BTs routing equipment. Extremely likely to be Telstra.

Thank you for that.

Both Telstra and BT have conducted tests No fault found.

After restarting the router calls which were cutting out at 15 mins then started cutting out at 30 mins.

Re: Incoming calls cut off after 1/2 hour

so - I have yet to see the answer to this:

1 - using video conferencing program over your broadband - such as Teams or Zoom - does that cut out - if not - then it is definitely not the broadband /or line connection to your house that utilises broadband - and is clearly to do with the VOIP software/hardware on which your 'landline' is running having some sort of timer - then I would suggest you have a breach of contract potentially as the service is not fit for purpose (consumer rights act) - just saying

Never use any of those programs but do use a program over which I share and receive data.
Thanks for the info., I will switch the program off next time I receive a call from Australia, see what happens.
Missed a call from BT regarding this problem it went to voicemail.
Promised to call again tomorrow.
Cheers,
Len.

Having done a simple search using google I found this which may be relevant - it's from an Aussie facebook group venting their ire about Telstra

Thanks Conrad,
Incoming calls were cutting out at 15 mins, after switching router off/on they then cut out at 30 mins.
My contact in Australia definitely has unlimited calls, and after a call cuts out and they dial again straight away the call will sometimes last for over an hour.

Re: Incoming calls cut off after 1/2 hour

@5progface it appears you keep going back to the statement - calls cut at 15 minutes without actually analysing the call parameters to eliminate any elements that may be the causality of the fault.  Sorry if this seems a bit harsh - but I can only go on what is exchanged here.

Facts I have gleaned

  1. The fault started when changing from analogue line to VOIP digital phone
  2. The calls cut off after 15mins, then 30mins after reconnecting - then sometimes longer.
  3. Your account is an unlimited calls account (with no limits for foreign calls?)
  4. You are on BroadBand 57mbps down and 15mbps up and stable - with FTC (Fibre to cabinet)
  5. FTC therefore has copper to your home which you state is UNDERGROUND. (UGC)

What facts are missing

  1. the person(s) you are calling - do they have similar issues with others calling them?
  2. are they VOIP or landline analogue?
  3. Have you tried conference calling with Teams or WhatsApp or Zoom -etc. and do you have the same issue cutting out after certain time?
  4. do you have cut outs with any other country contact of a similar nature?
  5. You have not kept a period of time diary around weather and cut outs to see if there is, in fact, a correlation with such phenomena (which is what I had with my cut outs) this may be your end or even at the other end with your contact?
  6. it is unknown if the software/hardware that BT is using to run your VOIP has a cut off timer (overlooked) for foreign calls - pending checks - hopefully answered when you speak with their engineer.
  7. is it your end cutting the call short - or is it the receiving end terminating the call for some reason (possibly one of the above given ?)

I truly wish you all the luck in sorting this.

BUT I RECOMMEND you use TEAMS, ZOOM  or WHATSAPP for your calls if they are broadband connected - you also have the joy of face to face then too - and who knows - you may decide to lose your landline and save a few bob.

3 It is my contact who has unlimited calls with Telstra.
Yesterday I received a voicemail informing me that BT had tried to contact me and advising me that they would call on Wednesday.
Stayed in all day/evening Wednesday Alas No call. Maybe tomorrow.
In an earlier post I did attach an Event Log.
Thanks for the info. Will check if my contact is on T Z or W
