Intermittent Problem with BT Essential Digital Home Phone Handsets

Go to solution

I now have an intermittent problem with 2 of the 3 BT Essential Digital Home Phone handsets that we have. The phone that is in the same room as the BT Smart Hub 2 that we have is always OK. However, with the other 2 phone handsets that are further away from the Hub, when picking up the phone to answer or make a call, show on their screens ‘Searching for Hub’ for just 1 or 2 seconds, then shows ‘Synchronising Handset Data’. If the handset was answered to take an i/c call that call is cut off.

Note: Our Digital Voice home phone service was activated on 14/11/2023.

It's probably the batteries failing.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will obtain some rechargeable batteries and change them in the offending handsets. Do we know how long the batteries should last? I have had the the handsets for less than 16 months. The batteries in our old pre digital voice handsets lasted years.

There seems to be a batch of batteries not lasting long with DV handsets although I have to say mine have been fine for a couple of years or so.

You could try alkaline batteries temporarily to see if it is the batteries causing the problem, but don't put the handsets on the base if you do.

I replaced the existing 800mAh rechargeable batteries with 1200nAh batteries 3 weeks ago now. All handsets have worked fine since and the handset base is able to cope with keeping the larger capacity batteries charged up as well with no problems.
