Is this a modem in my house?

Hi,

I have a BT Home Hub2 + a white box on the wall in my garage.

Can anyone confirm if this is a modem or not?

I am asking because I have a couple of Deco M5 dics and I'd like to run them in router mode, but conscious that the BT HH2 cannot be run in "Modem mode", so I'm wondering if I can rid myself of the BT HH2 and just connect the Deco straight into this white box thing (hoping it's a modem).

Thanks and excuse my ignorance.

Z

Yes, it is and yes, you can unless you have Digital Voice phone service, in which case that will only work with the SH2

Re: Is this a modem in my house?

Where is it connected to?

Digital voice uses DECT (cordless) technology to connect to the base station incorporated in the hub.

The phone is connected via the very old cable, so guess I'm OK 🙂

Re: Is this a modem in my house?

If it is connected to the ONT (modem) it will be legacy FVA (Fibre Voice Access) which will be converted to DV at some point.

Re: Is this a modem in my house?

Is your BT hub actually connected to that ONT? The reason I ask is that the Port1 light is not lit and I would expect it to be.

Re: Is this a modem in my house?

Hi,

Eagle eyes!

It is connected and we have Internet in the house so I assume its working OK?

I guess if it wasn't plugged in, we wouldnt have any Internet right?

Re: Is this a modem in my house?

Not necessarily. You could be using a DSL connection where the hub is plugged into a phone socket rather than into this ONT.

It might be worth posting a photo of the cables going into the rear of the hub
