Re: Fibre 1 vs Fibre 2 - confused about advise from BT

Go to solution

I have the exact same issue with BT and I think I am going to have to complain again.

My line has similar performance, max download is around 58 - 60 and 14 - 15 upload.

Was on Fibre 1 hitting 55/10 all day long but I really want that extra upload headroom.

Was offered Fibre 2 for £1 extra and took it as I thought it was good value and would squeeze every last drop out of my FTTC connection.

But BT point blank refuse to move me off a 55/10 profile. They even gave me £24 credit to cover the extra £1 a month, but I don’t want it, I want to unlock the extra upload speed, however small the bump.

Whatever happened to letting your line settle at the fastest speed it can handle? Isn’t that what DLM is for?

Surely it is up to me to decide if £1 extra a month for a few extra Mbps is good value or not?

Like @Hamble_River we are not on any FTTP programme for Openreach this side of 2026 currently.

I was offered the same thing - £1 extra a month for Full Fibre 2.
I had that in writing, but when I went to take the new contract out (2 days ago) they convinced me to stay on Fibre 1 - they flatly stated that I would not get anymore speed.
You appear to be saying that even after signing up to Fibre 2 BT refused to lift the cap on the line?
How do you know that you are not on any FTTP programme for Openreach this side of 2026?
Are you in the same area as me ?

I am approximately 1 mile from the Exchange.

@Anonymous

if you are having problems moving to fibre 2 then maybe mods can help.  start your own post and then post stats from your hub and also results from dslchecker as starter

Othere have upgraded for same reason as you just to get the higher upload even though download may only increase by few mbs

Hi @Anonymous,

Would you like us to look into this for you and see why you haven't been moved to the 80/20 profile instead of the 55/10 profile?

Thanks

Hi @DanielS
I'd also like some further advice about this.
I feel that I've misadvised by BT when renewing my contract. However, what is the point in paying the extra for Fibre2 if it's not going to be implemented?
Who should I contact? My complaint is becoming quite long-winded so I'd probably need to put something in writing at this point.

That is correct. I queried it and CS said it wouldn't go any faster, which is almost true for download, but not for upload according to the Smart Hub.

My current sync speed (55/10):

My maximum speed:

max-speed.jpg

So it's not much, but I really want to unlock any extra upload that is available.

By checking the Openreach plan. I am about 1.5 miles from Brookwood Exchange, stuck in-between two places that are both on the plan (Knaphill and Lightwater) and are also having alt-net rollout at the same time.

We do have Virgin Media here (as do the surrounding areas that are getting Openreach FTTP), but I won't touch them with a bargepole.

As I am on a SOGEA line I don't get accurate results from the BT wholesale checker as it doesn't recognise my number and I don't know what my "DN/ALID" is.

Thank you.

It says they my exchange will start building soon and some homes will be able to order full fibre with-in the next 12 months.
However, when I put my postcode in I get:
Build planned between now and Dec-2026
