Many other ISPs use Openreach, so that's no limitation to moving.
Being proactive & trying another router would have taken considerably less time than it took to make 11 posts in this thread. Indeed you could probably even use the Plusnet router you kept. But as with @Groo, you are perfectly entitled to do nothing & continue complaining...
I appreciate that ALL ISPs here use OR network. It's all we have! Until a week ago BT were blaming the OR network for the problem (when not insisting that I was overloading my capacity). While BT are in denial of the problem, they insist that I will have to pay an early termination fee if I switch.
Few other ISPs will provide a telephone service, or even consider letting us transfer with only FTTC, and no date in sight for FTTP.
As for being proactive, I have tried a TP-Link Archer AC1200 router which works perfectly, with none of these problems, but unfortunately does not have a DV port, or compatibility with BT DV.
With next to no mobile signal here, we need a telephone. I was told by BT guide "Don't worry, we will send you a DV adapter, which you can pair with your TP-Link router." You can't. It will only work with a SmartHub .
I have also tried the PlusNet SmartHub. Same problem, and even if it did work the DV port is disabled.
I am now on SmartHub number 3 as of Sunday. Same problem.
ISP reset by BT guide yesterday worked for 18 hours, them problem came back this morning.
I can't speak for @Groo but I have exhausted all proactive options, and my patience is rapidly running out!
Like @Groo are you a fair distance from the cabinet then? What sort of BB speeds are you getting? I take it you too are intermittently losing DV too?
About 500 yards from the cabinet. Overheads and poles from there. When it works, about 36 Mbps. All the symptoms are those of an intermittent DNS error, with "Hmmm! Can't connect to the internet" displayed on Edge. Same on Chrome and Firefox. Whilst typing this, it all went again, then 5 minutes later came back. DV works perfectly and router stays blue. It seems to be only websites and emails that are affected, mostly. Occasionally everything goes, but router stays blue.
So @SludgeIsland is it just WiFi, or are Ethernet connected devices affected too? Just trying to establish that your issue is different from @Groo 's . But then you've said ".. occasionally everything goes" . Does that include DV? So perhaps not..
But like I've said previously, if DV is affected then I would suggest that is what should be reported. I would hope it then gives the technical team a specific area to focus on. If that gets fixed then one would perhaps see that the 'Broadband / Internet' issues go away too. Well its what I'd do.
I suppose its rather like with FTTC having a poor BB speed. And then checking for a noisy line and reporting it as a faulty / noisy line rather than a broadband fault. If you see what I mean..
1 x Laptop, Windows 11, connected by ethernet. 1 x Laptop, Windows 11 and 1 x Windows 10 connected by WiFi. Makes no difference. All doing the same. Shows as connected on taskbar, and blue lights on router. Had to restart the router 3 times today to regain Internet. Shows as connected on taskbar, and blue lights on router.
To verify if it is a DNS problem, try changing the DNS on one of your devices to 8.8.8.8 and 4.4.4.4
You will have to do it on your laptop as you can't change DNS on the hub.
I have exactly same problem: blue lights on the router, and 3 discs all showing blue lights. The devices also show 'connected' but none cannot receive internet all the time. When using a browser it is obviously too slow or being blocked because it just says that site cannot be reached. Pulling the plug out on the router sometimes helps with the computer nearest to router but the signal drops often when online. Other devices just do not receive the internet. Hopefully will be resolved when BT comes again on Thursday.
@SludgeIsland And do you still have dial tone on the old master socket where you could possibly check for noise on the line with the 17070 facility?
Tried that on all three. Not a blind bit of difference.
Old phone socket is completely brown bread!
