Can I please suggest that the hub 5 has the option to turn it from a router into a pure modem unit?

 

It really would make things easier as I can use my own router while still making use of the dedicated fibre modem!

That would defeat the purpose of the Homehub 5. It was designed to be a one box solution which is what most of BTs customers wanted.

 

You could always buy an Openreach modem for about £20 from an auction site and use your own router with that.
