phone number help

We have been on our works phone line for a few years and most days we get a phone call for a lady or gentleman that doesn't work here. Most of the time the phone is put down on us but today we have had a gentleman who has rung our telephone number a few times but he also wanted us to confirm our number and we found out that the number he is ringing is completly different to ours. When we rung this number he gave us for these people it rang on our line. I have tried checking via the bt web site and added their number in the fault line check and it said its not valid and Ihave tried finding the right number to ring and have tried 0800 800 151 which went through the process of checking the number and said it was ok but if it is ringing our number then it will be ok as we are receiving the phone calls. The 0800 800 151 gave me a number 0800 0285705 but still no able to communicate with BT directly as this is not an average sort of problem. Plllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaasssssseeeee  can anybody out there help us finally solve this problem.
